COI Checker

Checks a vendor's certificate of insurance against the insurance your contract requires, and rules on every limit, date and endorsement one at a time.

What it does

COI Checker reads a vendor's certificate of insurance — the ACORD 25 that arrives before every job — and rules on it against the insurance your contract requires:

  • Limits — is each coverage carried at or above the limit you require?
  • Policy periods — does every required policy cover your whole contract term?
  • Expiry — is the certificate expired, or expiring inside your warning window?
  • Certificate holder — is the right entity named?
  • Endorsements — additional insured, waiver of subrogation, primary & non-contributory
  • Document hygiene — is it signed, does every row name a carrier, was it issued before the cover it certifies expired?

Every finding names the ACORD box it was read from and the requirement it was measured against, so a short certificate goes back to the vendor with a specific reason rather than "rejected."

Why you can trust the answer

You supply the requirements. The tool transcribes the certificate into named fields, and every verdict after that is arithmetic — whole-cent comparisons, date containment, presence tests — not an opinion.

That split is the point. A compliance answer you cannot check is worth little. Here the required number is on the screen because you typed it, and it is printed beside every ruling.

Every check comes back pass, fail or unverifiable — never a false "compliant." A certificate that omits a coverage, or prints a limit as an unreadable scan, has not passed anything, and saying so is the difference between a clean certificate and an unexamined one.

Umbrella stacking is reported separately, never silently as a pass: when a primary limit falls short you are shown whether primary plus umbrella would reach the requirement, and left to decide whether your contract allows it.

Who it is for

  • Procurement and vendor onboarding teams clearing suppliers before work starts
  • General contractors checking subcontractor certificates before mobilisation
  • Property and facility managers tracking certificates across many vendors
  • Contract administration and risk teams auditing a file after the fact

How it works

  1. Enter your insurance requirements: limits, contract term, holder, endorsements.
  2. Upload the certificate from your dashboard, or send it to the API with the requirements as JSON.
  3. The check runs in the background; the job page updates the moment it is ready.

What you get back

The transcribed certificate and every check — with the required value, the carried value and the box it was read from. Download as JSON, CSV or PDF, and re-download any time at no extra charge.

Good to know

  • Takes PDF, JPEG, PNG, WebP or HEIC: a scan or a phone photo both work.
  • Billed per certificate. The number of requirements you check does not change the price.
  • It does not read your contract, and does not confirm with the carrier that a policy is in force.
