GS1 Label Auditor

Checks a photographed GS1 logistic label against its own check-digit arithmetic and catches malformed identifiers before they reach a retailer's dock.

About This Model

What it does

GS1 Label Auditor reads a photograph of a finished GS1 logistic label — the one applied to every pallet or carton before it ships — and checks every identifier printed on it against its own arithmetic:

  • GTIN, SSCC and GLN check digits — is each number even well-formed?
  • Barcode vs. printed-text agreement — does the number encoded in the barcode match the one printed beside it?
  • Date logic — is the expiry on or after the production date?
  • Net weight agreement — does the printed weight match the decimal position encoded in the barcode data?
  • Required fields — are the identifiers a logistic label must carry actually present?

Every finding names the identifier and the rule it breaks, so a wrong label can be shown the arithmetic instead of being told "the software says so."

Why you can trust the answer

GTIN, SSCC and GLN numbers each carry their own built-in check digit. A transposed digit — the single most common keying error — changes that check digit, so a malformed number is provably wrong, not merely suspicious. This is the same arithmetic a scanner would run, done before the pallet ever reaches one.

The tool never corrects what it reads. If a number looks wrong, wrong is what gets reported. Reformatting or "helpfully" completing a truncated field would defeat the whole point, since a silently repaired identifier looks exactly like a correct one.

Every check comes back as pass, fail, or unverifiable — never a false "compliant." A label that doesn't print an expiry date can't have its dates compared, and that's reported honestly rather than skipped over.

Who it is for

  • Suppliers shipping into grocery, pharmacy or general retail who apply their own GS1 logistic labels
  • 3PLs and co-packers applying labels on a supplier's behalf
  • Warehouse and dock teams doing a last check before a pallet ships
  • QA and compliance teams investigating a retailer chargeback after the fact

How it works

  1. Photograph the finished label, or use a generated label file.
  2. Upload it from your dashboard, or send it to the API.
  3. The audit runs in the background; the job page updates the moment it's ready.

What you get back

Every identifier found, its parsed value, and every check — pass, fail or unverifiable — with the rule it concerns. Download as JSON, CSV or PDF, and re-download any time at no extra charge.
